Cold day = Hog Killing!!!

Today I have had this handsome fella on my mind!!! This is my Daddy and I miss him sooooooo much!! He passed away 3 years ago and I think about him daily! Just about everything I do reminds me of him in some way!

It has been really cold the past couple of days and its not looking like it is gonna be warming up too much any time soon! If my Daddy was still alive and feeling good he would be having a Hog Killing Day!! It would start out with a Hog like this one.
And then end up like this!!! I know ewww!!! But it was one of the BEST days of my childhood!! We got to skip school and eat homemade biscuits and sausage fresh out of the grinder!! And my Daddy could really make some good sausage!!

I wish that my kids could experience this just once in their life...but I don't think that I will be able to talk Jeff into doing this!!! I have no place for a hog or would my neighbors like it...they stink!!!

Well so much for my memories of Hog Killing Days...I guess I will just go and get some sausage from the store and cook it and make some homemade biscuits! Oh no never mind I can't even do that...I start that D thing today!!! UGH...grilled baked broiled and steamed is the way we will be eating now!!!

Ok, You all have a good day!

~Till Tomorrow~

  2. Yep... We are country girls! Loved Hog killing day and and if Daddy didn't feel like doing it, he would say "It is cold enough to kill a hog":) Love those memories! Stay warm dear Sister! Love you!

  3. Not such cool pictures today... started out cool. It actually helped me in my "d" today! The pig didn't look too appetizing. We used to slaughter cows but I was never part of it... I named animals so that created a problem for my parents. Found out only a few years ago I ate "Lashes". :o Have a great day! xoxo

  4. Like father, like son. My daddy says the same thing about killing a hog. In fact, he told Cam a few weeks ago he was gonna get one just for that purpose. Homemade sausage.

  5. I miss him, too. AND I gave him that hat! He loved that darn hat! I loved seeing him with it on. I also completely remember the one year I watched the slaughter! It is burnt in my brain forever! Yuck! I probably did not eat pig that day, just like I did not eat pig when we cooked that whole thing at my house, especially when you chased me around with the pig snout!!! Love you!!

  6. For me, it wasn't hogs - it was deer or other wild game. On a side note: you might want to check out the healthier turkey sausage and bacon. ;)

It's hard when a parent passes. I can't believe it's been nearly 13 years since my mom passed. While the pain eases with time, it never goes away...
